PT-141 (Bremelanotide)

Overview

PT-141 works differently from more familiar erectile dysfunction medications: instead of acting on blood flow, it activates melanocortin receptors in the central nervous system, which is why it’s studied for arousal in both men and women. It’s the active compound behind an FDA-approved prescription treatment for a specific condition in women, and is discussed more broadly for its effect on libido.
